Special Needs: Roxie's paws are allergic to grass so they will need to be wiped off when coming in from outdoors. I have her on Apoquel to stop her from scratching and biting her paws.

Detailed Description*:Hello, my name is Roxie! I am looking for a new, loving home with a family who has time for a sweet dog. HIGH ENERGY…YES, but only on two occasions; once I enter the GREAT outdoors (which I always need to be on a leash unless enclosed area), and when I see other dogs or animals. Inside I am calm, follows directions, and love to be near my owner. I spend most of the day home by myself now that my current owner’s young adult son has left her home. She works two jobs and is currently enrolled in school and understands that it’s not fair for me to be home all day by myself. I get quite lonely and bored during the day as well as feel some separation anxiety. On the contrary, I am house trained and I do not tear things up even though I am left to roam around (with the exception of a blanket or two and my toys).
I love walks but cannot seem to stop allowing the smell of other dog scents to keep me from pulling. I am thrilled when running around in a closed in-fence to burn off my built up steam. I look forward to being boarded at the doggie resort so I can enjoy high energy playtime, but my owner can’t afford that often. I have to have one on one play time there because they say I am “too hyper” to play with other dogs, so a single pet home would probably be the best fit for me. I’m very loyal but I am not a barker. So if you are looking for a GUARD DOG…sorry that does not fit my MO (although most people assume that I am since my breed has such a bad reputation). I only whine or bark when I need to go outside to do my business.

I have grass allergies as most pit bulls do, but it is controlled by this wonderful medicine called Apoquel. Oh, let me not forget that I am allergic to any foods that have red dye in it (all shades including orange). My owner found a great dog food that agrees with me (grain and dye free), and I usually eat it after she goes to bed (when I realize no more of her human snacks will be hitting the floor…lol). She allows me to sleep on the furniture, however, I can be broken from doing that as she broke me from sleeping on her bed (She can share her secret with you). I enjoy lying on people’s lap, and delight in belly rubs. I come with a crate, 2 beds, a leash, my favorite toys, and a month worth of meds, snacks, and doggy supplies. I am spayed, current on vaccinations, have had wellness exams and yearly dental cleanings at Benfield Pet Hospital. I take preventive heart worm and flea and tick meds regularly. I weigh about 55 pounds, shed short brown hairs, and am in the pit bull family (not sure my exact breed). If I have piqued your desire to be my new owner, please apply for me.

My owner has shown me so much love since the day she rescued me three years ago after being abandoned, that she fought back the tears (not all of them) to write my profile. She just wants to be sure that my new family will continue to show me love and take good care of me.
